So, I started sewing these hats one day and after about making 20 they covered most of the dresser and furniture of the spare bedroom. I needed an intervention. What began as an attempt to repair a fur head wrap took on a life of its own. I searched for wool in the local fabric store and became disenchanted with the touch and feel of today's fabrics. What happened to the good stuff, where has it gone?
Then I happened into a Goodwill store and laid my hand on a fine brown suit. "Say, this fabric is wonderful!" I brought in my brown mink head wrap in to check color (humans evolved to have very poor color memory). Nearby I saw sweaters made from fine wool and promptly called my friend Mary who felts knitted bags.
"Can this be felted so it can be paired with the wool and fur?" Yes. Yes. Yes. And then I envisioned matching other fabulous wools with other felted sweaters. And fleece, and silk ties.
After that came the 20 hats, all a little bit different because the character of the garment influenced the design. One day, I blurted out, "the fabric sings to me," and that got some strange looks, yes, but that's what happens.
Back to the intervention. My friends saw the hats and said, "Make more. Sell them."
With their help and ENCOURAGEMENT, herewith are selections of hats that I hope will delight you.
